VILLA STIEN DE MONZIE
ANALYSIS

This analysis of Le Corbusier’s Villa Stien de Monzie explores how his peculiar figural elements related to circulation, and how the circulation weaves between indoor and outdoor conditions. The findings were then abstracted into a small model.

VERTICAL CONSTRUCT

Inspired by the puzzle box below, this sectional design confronts circulation and procession. A series of analogous apertures propels movement through my externalized core to an internal one separately designed. The base is also designed to force circulation to a point where both entry thresholds co-exist.
HOUSE SHOW - ROW HOUSE

After redesigning winter street to include an off centered square, this site was away from the active center. To bring attention to the far end, I designed a row house that accommodated the DIY PHL house show scene. I created a distinct separation between public and private circulation with a variety of outdoor spaces for both parties. Connecting the two users is a grand light well for a spiral staircase.

THE FLOATING CORE
 A PUZZLE

This puzzle box was inspired by material interactions and the mechanical joint of tracking. A basswood core seems to float when plastic and basswood pieces slide on to the core. The sequence of the pieces is organized by a pattern atlternation of concealing and revealing the core through layers of basswood, air, and plastic.

EXPERIENTIAL PIER

This pier was an exploration in phenomena of a body’s movement and sensations instigated by Race St. Pier on Columbus Blvd. Here there is a definite contrast in the experience through two separate zones. The first provides options and choice within an enclosed orthogonal system and the second having an open singular path.

WINTER STREET DWELLING

Here students were confronted with defining a ‘dwelling.’ This dwelling’s function was a temporary, more transitional type of housing for the people to come and go. Inspired by a variety of approaches found in Philadelphia, this dwelling’s social spaces are easily accessible while its private zones are smaller and more intimate as one proceeds through the dwelling.
